Once the kimono is carefully taken apart, we check for stains or damage, then wash and treat the fabric according to its type to prepare it for use. The pattern is then placed and cut with careful attention to the kimono’s beautiful designs, ensuring they are perfectly showcased.
After everything is meticulously sewn together, the kimono dress is finally complete.

As women reach a certain age, they inevitably face a wall. The desire to enjoy fashion contrasts with their dwindling self-confidence, and they find themselves increasingly unsure of what to wear to feel empowered.
With that in mind, I created Hana Dress to support these women through the ‘unique beauty of Japan’ embodied in kimono dresses.
Living overseas, I am reminded daily of the love and admiration the world has for Japan, especially for the kimono, which is incredibly popular abroad. However, traditional kimonos can be difficult to wear and carry.
I wanted to make it easier to enjoy kimonos in everyday life, while also supporting the evolving hearts and bodies of women, allowing them to embrace sustainable fashion with confidence and ease.

Drawn to the charm of vintage kimonos, I began creating upcycled kimono dresses under the name ‘Tsubakiya’ in 2005.
With ‘Hana Dress,’ I focus on creating timeless, subtle, and elegant designs that transcend fleeting trends.
Even as we age, I want to create dresses that allow women to express themselves beautifully. Every day, I reflect on what kind of design will make someone choose to wear one of these dresses even 10 years from now, constantly experimenting and refining my approach.
Each kimono dress is made from one-of-a-kind vintage kimonos. They are crafted to accompany the changing hearts and bodies of women as they age, delivering confidence and a feeling of joy.
